BAFTA and Emmy award-winning film director Tony Palmer will be talking about his long and very successful career at The Regal Cinema, Wadebridge, on Sunday 13 September at 7.30pm.
Well-known for capturing music royalty on film – from The Beatles and rock icons like Leonard Cohen, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton to classical masters like Maria Callas and Benjamin Britten – the legendary filmmaker will be on stage to introduce his work, screen his restored archive features, and answer questions from the audience.
Having just celebrated his 85th birthday and now living in West Cornwall, Tony Palmer has earned global recognition and over 40 international prizes for more than 100 films. He has directed great actors like Richard Burton, Vanessa Redgrave, Laurence Olivier and John Gielgud, counted John Lennon as a friend and on-stage directorial achievements include a significant number of operas.
The one-night only event in Wadebridge will be hosted by Tony’s cousin George Stoy, from George’s Surf School in Polzeath, and 50% of all ticket sales will be donated to Young & Talented Cornwall – the Lord Lieutenant’s Fund that aims to give young people an opportunity to succeed, regardless of financial need, physical challenges or background.
“Tony Palmer is a legend in his own lifetime, and this is an amazing chance to see him in person and listen to his unique and wonderful stories,” said Kate Holborow, Deputy Lieutenant of Cornwall.
“We are hugely grateful to him, The Regal Cinema and everyone else involved in supporting Young & Talented Cornwall. Such generosity really does change lives.”
“An Evening with Tony Palmer: All You Need Is Love” will be held in Screen 1 of The Regal Cinema in Wadebridge on Sunday 13 September and is the opening event for the Polzeath Resonance Festival.
