A packed week of free events to celebrate Cradley Library’s 90th birthday was well attended by adults and children of all ages.
From Rattle and Rhyme sessions for the under 5s to craft-making, musical entertainment, creative writing and a variety of talks, the library’s role as a community venue through the decades was marked and applauded.
A special birthday cake was also cut in honour of the occasion and many memories shared.
“It all went really well,” said Sue Morgan-Salcombe, Library Manager. “Great interest was shown in the library’s history and staff, customers and friends all came along to support us.”
First opened by prominent industrialist and local benefactor Seth Somers on 26 March 1936, Cradley Library is now run by not-for-profit social enterprise GLL on behalf of Dudley Council.
“Libraries are places for people to gather, share information and make friends,” said Stephanie Rhoden, GLL Partnership Manager for Dudley Libraries. “As Cradley has shown, their role has evolved and is just as important now as it has ever been.
“We’re here to provide facilities and services that benefit the whole community and look forward to doing so for many more years to come.”
