Better Maindy Centre is the venue for Go Mobile: Wales on Tuesday 29 July, an open day for people with physical disabilities to test and try out a large variety of vehicles and adaptations.

It’s the second consecutive year the event has been held, and Paralympic Gold Medallist Aled Davis will be attending to lend his support.

“The event allows people with physical disabilities to experience driving a car around a private track,” said Anthony Hayes, Maindy Centre Manager.

“The cars are specially adapted with hoists and platforms to lift from wheelchairs and into the driving seat.

“Last year’s launch was an overwhelming success in terms of turnout, and a huge amount of work has gone into making Go Mobile: Wales even better this year.

“We look forward to welcoming Aled Davis, other VIPs and our visitors to what we hope will be a great day out.”

Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the not-for-profit charitable social enterprise that runs Maindy Centre on behalf of Cardiff City Council.

“We’re delighted to be working with The Wales Mobility and Driving Assessment Service and giving this amazing driving opportunity to physically disabled people aged sixteen and over,” said GLL Transformation Manager Matt Simmons.

“Our Cardiff leisure centres are a community resource and it’s wonderful to see a unique Welsh event like this being staged at Maindy.”
