Around 5000 people joined the mass virtual lights switch on in Camborne on Thursday 3rd December.
Live streamed on Facebook, both residents and businesses alike were able to join the town’s countdown; turning on their own decorations at the same time as the thirty-foot Nordman Fir tree in the town square and other light displays across Camborne.
In the run up to the ceremony Camborne’s own version of the song Trelawny was also shared. Created by the Ingelheart singers during the first lockdown the lyrics speak about the local community and how everyone has come together during this tough time.
“The event proved to be a massive success,” said BID Manager Anna Pascoe. “This year has been tough for everyone and it was fantastic to see so many people come together to celebrate the start of the festive season.
“Whilst things can’t be normal this year due to Covid, the BID Camborne and Camborne Town Council teams have been working hard to ensure Christmas is as memorable as ever.
“The annual Christmas shop window competition is well underway and free parking at Rosewarne car parks will be available on Saturday 19th– Sunday 20th and Wednesday 23rd December, allowing everyone to pick up those last-minute gifts. Those tuning into our Camborne Town podcast can also enjoy the latest adventures of two naughty elves, Cam and Bronne!”
The virtual switch on is available to watch again on the @CamborneTown Facebook and Instagram pages. To listen to the Camborne Town podcast visit Anchor https://anchor.fm/camborne-town or search iTunes or Spotify for ‘Tales of Camborne Town’.
