The Tyacks Hotel in Camborne has become the latest business to raise money for local charities.

Thanks to donations collected at events like RockFest and regular tribute and Cornish band sessions, Tyacks’ Director Sam Bowen has presented a total of £1000 to three organisations: the Invictus Trust, which supports local teenagers suffering from mental health issues; Camborne Day Centre, which provides an opportunity for people of all ages to meet new friends and the Last Chance Hotel, which rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes abused and neglected dogs and other animals in Cornwall.

“We put buckets on the bar and also get them passed around whenever we’ve got a crowd in,” said Sam. “I was brought up in Camborne and feel very proud of the great sense of community that we have here. We’re not a rich town but we do care and that’s why we try to pull together when we can.”

Other local businesses that have been fundraising recently include the Lowenac Hotel and Apollo Bingo which donated £894 and £876 respectively to Cornwall Hospice Care and Delight2Bite which donated £173.55 from customers’ tips to Cornwall Hospice South West.

“I never cease to be amazed by the generosity of people living in, or visiting, Camborne,” said BID (Business Improvement District) Manager Mel Martin. “That caring ethos is also reflected in Camborne’s Fairtrade status, the free water refills provided and ongoing progress towards becoming an official plastic-free town.”
