Camborne’s regular Friday produce market is going to be boosted throughout July and August with the addition of stalls run by local arts and craft makers.
Situated in the town’s main square, the market has long been a favourite with local residents and visitors keen to buy from independent traders like The Cornish Spice Man, Little Cornish Deli, The Puffin Devil (specialising in handmade pasties, pies and cakes) and Pooley’s Meat Pantry.
Now their ranks will be swelled by businesses like Dylan’s Bear Necessities, jewellery-maker Jojangles and glassware specialist KayCee Design.
“I’ll be representing a small body of local crafters who excel at what they do,” said Dylan’s owner Colin Smith, who has a shop and gallery in nearby Trelowarren Street and who also works as an author, poet and artist. “There will be art by Diane Wilkes and Mairie Williamson, beautiful wood carving created by JS Wood, jewellery by Ann Kinge and sought-after pottery by Ing Bratley who sells a lot of her work in St Ives.
“You get more for your money shopping in Camborne and there are real treasures to be found here.”
Camborne’s BID (Business Improvement District) team is proactively supporting the town’s Friday market expansion.
“There’s a real creative and artisanal hub here and the quality of the products and artwork being sold is exceptional,” said BID manager Mel Martin. “People come to the market from miles around and I’ve no doubt its appeal will become even stronger during the peak summer months.”
The market takes place in Commercial Square every Friday from 9am to 2pm. For more information, visit the website.
