A special handover event is being held on Tuesday 7 July to celebrate the completion of a community mosaic that is going on display at Lye Library.
The mosaic was created by local residents during free workshops at the library as part of the Life in Lye programme funded by the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner.
Led by international mosaic artist Caroline Jariwala, the many people attending learnt how to cut shapes with tile nippers, make crockery and use a range of adhesives.
“Caroline Jariwala creates colourful pieces using recycled ceramics and runs fun, hands-on workshops in schools, galleries and community spaces,” said librarian Jodi Wray.
“We were delighted to welcome her to Lye Library and are really looking forward to seeing a wonderful, finished mural that’s been made by the people living here.”
Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the charitable social enterprise and workers’ cooperative that runs Lye and twelve other Dudley libraries on behalf of the council.
“It’s been a privilege to be involved in this important community programme that completely reflects our ethos,” said Stephanie Rhoden, GLL Partnership Manager.
“Our libraries are there for the benefit of residents living in the area and those involved will be able to see their creativity on display whenever they visit.
“The mural is now part of Lye history so go and have a look and admire it for yourselves.”
Members of the public are welcome to attend the handover from 11am to midday on Tuesday 7 July and refreshments will be provided.
