Staff and customers at Eastern Leisure Centre have come together to raise £3475 for Cancer Research UK.
Team Eastern took part in Cardiff’s 5k Race for Life and runners included General Manager Nikki Lewis, Lead Swim Teacher Melissa Palmer and centre members from aged seven upwards.
“There’s a real community feel at Eastern,” said Annie Hillman, Community, Sport and Health Manager for GLL Cardiff, the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs Eastern Leisure.
“Cancer Research UK is a great cause, and we’re delighted with the amount of money raised.
“The team had a mix of abilities and ages and were all there for each other. Because that’s what Eastern is about. Getting active, making friends and having fun.
“The youngest member of the team was 7-year-old Jaxon, a member of Eastern’s Swim School. He certainly enjoyed the Pretty Muddy Race Kids race and is looking to get some friends to join him next year.”
Race for Life is an annual fixture in the Eastern community calendar and plans are already underway for Team Eastern involvement in the 2027 event.
