Witches, ghosts and a Christmas singalong all feature in Dudley Library’s upcoming trio of free, midwinter events.

The first, on Thursday 28 November at 7pm, is ‘A Gathering of Witches’, a talk about the UK’s macabre history of witch hunts and trials. Accusations, persecutions, hysteria and executions – Professor Black digs deep into individual tales of witchcraft and sorcery.

The second event on Thursday 5 December at 6.30pm is a spooky, candlelit performance of ‘Figure on the Pier’ – a ghost story written by A G Smith and read by ‘The Librarian’ at Weeping Bank Library.

Funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, the reading is described as having ‘the genuine ability to chill’ and is therefore unsuitable for anyone under the age of fifteen or those of a nervous disposition.

The third and final free event on Saturday 7 December at 2pm is an opportunity for adults and children to take part in a Christmas singalong with musical duo Second Chance.

Operating under the Better brand, Dudley Library is run by GLL on behalf of Dudley Council.

“This is the season of contrasts – from the so-called dark arts and horror of the unknown to feelgood family festivity,” said Sharon Whitehouse, Dudley Library Manager.

“Our forthcoming events reflect that diversity, and we look forward to welcoming all those who come along.”
