Laurie Goldberg is helping people with a range of medical conditions get healthier in Bude.

With 35 years’ experience of fitness and personal safety training in the police force, he has joined the GLL team as its Healthwise facilitator.

High blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, asthma, respiratory diseases, depression, anxiety and arthritis are among the many chronic health issues that can be improved with regular physical activity.

Patients can be referred to the award-winning Healthwise scheme by medical professionals and Laurie’s job is to organise instructor-led activity programmes that are right for them at Bude Leisure Centre.

“The sole purpose of my new role is to help others achieve their personal goals,” he said.

“As well as helping people manage and improve their health, regular exercise is a great way of meeting new friends and broadening horizons.

“It’s a real privilege to see the difference Healthwise can make, and I encourage anyone who think they might benefit to get in touch.”

Operating under the Better brand, GLL runs leisure centres throughout Cornwall on behalf of the council.

“I’m delighted that Laurie has joined us,” said Rob Francis, GLL’s General Manager at Bude Leisure Centre.

“He has tremendous expertise and I know so many local residents will benefit from the assistance he can offer.”
