A first edition Daphne du Maurier novel, local art works, a trip on a tug and Fowey holiday accommodation are just some of the lots in an online auction being run by the Fowey Festival team from 6pm on Friday 25 November to 6pm on Sunday 4 December.
With the 25th festival event taking place from 12-20 May 2023, organisers have also launched an adult short story competition and will be teaming up with National Just Giving Day on Tuesday 29 November.
“All proceeds will go towards making our 25th festival bigger and better than ever,” said Lynn Goold, Chair of the festival’s trustees.
“Our online auction has proved very successful in previous years – with lots of fun and excitement in the build-up towards what is usually a nail-biting finish. It’s all made possible by the generosity of local businesses, artists and festival friends and we can’t thank them enough for their donations.”
Bestselling author Raynor Winn will be judging the short story competition. Entitled “I’ll never be young again” in tribute to Daphne du Maurier’s 1932 novel of the same name, stories mustn’t exceed 1500 words. There is an entry fee of £10 and the deadline for submissions is 5 February for postal entries and 5 March for electronic entries.
“Our festival is all about showcasing creative talent and short story competitions like ours can be steppingstones to literary success,” said Lynn. “The winners will be presented with their cash prizes by Raynor Winn and we’re delighted that she’s agreed to act as a judge as well.”
