People are being encouraged back to Camborne town with a range of “Pop Up to Help Out” activities like face painting, storytelling, dance performances, photography and even some magic maths.

They are also being invited to explore Camborne’s impressive heritage by taking part in the Town Trail Time Trial and recording their activity on the Strava app. Those successfully completing the trail, by whatever means, will be awarded a certificate and a free reusable branded water bottle.

A grant of £6,000 has been awarded to BID Camborne to deliver the activities as part of its share of ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) money that has been distributed to councils in England by the Government. Known as the Welcome Back Fund, the aim is to help high streets ‘build back better from the pandemic’.

“Since the start of Covid 19, businesses in Camborne have experienced lower than normal levels of custom,” said BID Manager Anna Pascoe. “The aim of this programme is to welcome visitors, residents and local people back to the town centre in a safe, enjoyable, entertaining way.”

The heritage trail is one mile in length and includes landmarks like Camborne library, the Trevithick memorial statue, the old market house, the original site of Camborne School of Mines and the former literary institute.

“It isn’t a race but does provide a fascinating insight into Camborne history,” said Lauren Willoughby, who has been organising activities on behalf of the BID team. “It doesn’t matter if you run, walk, dance or wheelchair the trail – it’s completing it that counts.”

Community dance charity TR14ers will be dancing their way through the Town Trail Time Trial on Saturday 19 Feb 2022 and the Welcome Back Fund programme will continue until 31 March.
