In the wake of Cornwall’s first Tour of Britain bike race, young people are being given the opportunity of earning their own racing stripes in Camborne’s main street.
BID Camborne, Tesco and Tyacks Hotel are jointly hosting the inaugural event on Sunday 24 October.
Tots on Trikes for ages 0 – 5 years is a 200m course that starts at 10am and goes from the Tyacks Hotel to Commercial Square and back. Tykes on Trikes, a 500m race for the 6 – 10-year age group, begins at 1030am and Teens on Trikes, for those aged 11 – 15 years, follows the same route along Trelowarren Street at 11am.
There will be face-painting at the Tyacks Hotel, where all the races start, and a Tesco sponsored goodie bag will be presented to competitors at the Tesco car park finishing line.
“It was wonderful seeing star cyclists race through Camborne on the first Tour of Britain leg, so we decided young people should have their chance to show off some pedal power too,” said BID Manager Anna Pascoe.
“There will be prizes for the category winners and, who knows, we might just see a future Chris Coombe, Katie Archibald or Mark Cavendish in action. It’s all very exciting and another Camborne ‘first’.”
Places are limited so advance registration is essential. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.cambornetown.com/whatson or picked up at Tyacks Hotel reception and Tesco customer services.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
