Better leisure centres across Cornwall are offering free public swimming sessions to improve water skills in the wake of lockdown closures caused by the pandemic.

GLL, the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs the centres, is working in partnership with Active Cornwall and Cornwall Council on the countywide initiative which is being funded by the Active Recovery Fund Project.

“Swimming is an important life skill – particularly in a county that has such an extensive coastline,” said James Curry, GLL’s Head of Service in Cornwall. “Each of our centres will provide a free, weekly hour-long session that is open to anyone.”

The Better leisure centres taking part are Bude, Saltash, Wadebridge, Launceston, Bodmin, Liskeard, Newquay, Truro, St Austell, Helston, St Ives and Ships and Castles in Falmouth.

Session times and start dates vary and booking is advisable for all swimmers, including under 3s.
