Three Better leisure centres in Cornwall will be offering holiday activity sessions for children from 26 July to 20 August.
The Time2Move holiday programme is open to all young people and free for those aged 5 to 16 on free school meals.
Delivered in partnership with Active Cornwall and funded by the Department of Education, sessions for children aged 5 -12 years will take place at Helston, Bodmin and Launceston leisure centres and will include an hour’s swimming with qualified GLL instructors.
“The aim is to provide group activities that are fun and enjoyable in a safe setting,” said Active Cornwall Project Support Officer Karen Edmond. “It’s an excellent opportunity to socialise, get fit and eat good food – whilst also improving skills and confidence in the water.
“Active Cornwall coaches will deliver the multi-sports element and GLL swimming teachers will take charge in the pool. It’s a collaborative approach designed to help ensure local children enjoy their summer.”
Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the social enterprise that runs 13 leisure centres on behalf of Cornwall Council.
“We’re delighted to be working closely with Active Cornwall on this government-funded project and look forward to welcoming the young people taking part during their break from school,” said GLL’s Head of Service James Curry.
“After the last eighteen months of turmoil, it’s never been more important for children to get some exercise, whilst also having fun safely.”
