After three years at the helm of a popular restaurant on Tresco, Jack Stephens has joined C-Bay on West Pentire, Crantock, as the bar and bistro’s new head chef.

With plenty of experience in making the most of local, seasonal products, Jack has earned a reputation for his take on modern British food. Fresh fish, carefully sourced meat and big, hearty flavours right for the time of year are key to his showcase dishes – alongside classical favourites that are given a new twist.

Jack has always loved cooking and, after training at Cornwall College, started his career at the Trelowarren Estate on the Lizard catering for shooting parties. Further jobs followed in Perranuthnoe and Porthleven before he and his partner Sophie accepted an invitation to work on a private yacht sailing around the Mediterranean for a year. Now settled in Crantock with his family, Jack couldn’t be happier about his new position.

“Who wouldn’t want to work in such a glorious location, with such a lovely team,” said Jack. “C-Bay is already well-known for the range and quality of its all-day food offering – my aim will be to continue producing dishes that are time-honoured and best-loved for very good reasons, whilst also introducing some creative ideas of my own.”

Since opening an extension earlier this year, C-Bay has increased its table covers and been granted a wedding licence.

“We’re really pleased with the way our business has grown in 2019 and are delighted that Jack has now joined to add some extra culinary flair,” said director Nina Eyles. “These are exciting times for us and we look forward to increasing our opening hours and welcoming more guests in 2020.”

C-Bay Bar & Bistro is situated above Crantock Bay and forms part of a complex that includes fifteen luxury rented apartments and a spa. The site has been owned and run by the Eyles family since 1951.
