Sustainability has always been at the heart of Callestick Farm’s ethos but recycling the hard plastic ice-cream tubs the award-winning business supplies to the catering industry has always proved a challenge.
Now, after several years of research, the Callestick team has sourced a recycling plant that will take containers sized from one litre upwards. That means customers can return their clean and empty tubs to their Callestick delivery driver or return them direct to the farm.
“We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and are really pleased to have found a way of reprocessing our containers, so they don’t end up in landfill,” said marketing manager Amy Breach. “Our business is all about protecting our wonderful natural resources and looking after our land as well as our animals. We do our best to minimise our impact on the planet as much as possible and recycling our product packaging is another step in the right direction.”
Other environmental measures in place at Callestick Farm include installing solar panels to run their freezers and a biomass boiler to provide heating in the offices, tea-room and ice-creamery.
