Teams of between 3 and 5 people are being invited to compete in a fun Pedal for Pudsey breakfast challenge taking place in Cornish leisure centres from 6.30am to 8am on Friday 15 November to raise money for BBC Children in Need.

BBC Radio Cornwall’s breakfast programme will be broadcasting live from St Austell Leisure Centre on the day – with presenters James Churchfield and Julie Skentelbury pedalling on gym bikes alongside other competitors. There will also be updates from roving reporter Naomi Kennedy who will be visiting other participating centres during the challenge.

Each team will be competing on the furthest distance collectively travelled in 90 minutes, the best dressed and on the most money raised. Those taking part don’t have to be gym members and one bike will be allocated per team.

“This is a great opportunity for people to get up early and be part of an enjoyable, highly entertaining charity fundraiser – all before going on to work, school or their normal daily routine,” said Amelia Kitchen, GLL general manager at St Austell. “Plenty of good, motivational atmosphere is guaranteed and BBC Children in Need is a very worthwhile cause.  Businesses, sports clubs, groups of friends – however teams are formed, everyone is welcome.”

A minimum £30 donation from each team is requested – with all proceeds going to the BBC Children in Need charity. Sponsorship forms are available and optional fancy dress is highly recommended.

The participating leisure centres all operate under the Better brand and are part of Cornwall’s GLL Partnership. They are: Bodmin, Bude, Helston, Launceston, Liskeard, Saltash, Ships & Castles in Falmouth, St Austell, St Ives, Truro, Wadebridge and Waterworld in Newquay.

Entries should be registered direct with the leisure centres concerned and, with limited numbers of bikes available, early booking is recommended. The challenge will end at 8am on 15 November and winners will be announced before 9am when Radio Cornwall’s breakfast programme ends.
