Becky Thomas, from Falmouth, and Dan Orasnjak, from Newquay, have become partners at Lang Bennetts Chartered Accountants.
Becky, who oversaw the firm’s expansion into Falmouth and has managed that office’s growth ever since, originally joined the firm as a receptionist 19 years ago. Keen to learn, she accepted the offer of becoming a trainee VAT assistant, studied for her accounting technician exams at evening classes over three years and then moved onto certified accountancy qualifications on a day release basis.
“I qualified as a certified chartered accountant in 2010,” she says. “Lang Bennetts helped me all the way through with my training and have genuinely become like family. There were far fewer staff when I started and it’s been very satisfying to see the firm expand, particularly in the last five years. Technology has also seen dramatic changes and we now have state-of-the-art IT systems that have revolutionised the accounting process.
“I love my job because of the people and the ethos. We really do care about our clients and, even though we’ve grown significantly in the last five years, that determination to go the extra mile remains central to everything we do. I’m extremely proud to have become a partner and look forward to helping shape the future of the firm in the months and years ahead.”
Dan’s career path in the last eleven years has taken him from graduating with a first-class honours’ degree in Economics, qualification as a chartered accountant, then further qualification as a chartered tax adviser.
“I soon realised tax was what I wanted to specialise in as it is very client-focused and I love problem-solving,” he explains. “I was working in a very niche area of tax locally when the opportunity of joining the Lang Bennetts’ team came up 3 years ago. I’m delighted and proud to have now been offered a partnership as Lang Bennetts continues to go from strength to strength.”
The firm’s Managing Partner Colin Truscott said both Becky and Dan had proved themselves to be outstanding members of the team.
“Since moving to the Falmouth office 6 years ago, Becky has contributed to considerable business growth,” he said. “Dan has been similarly successful in the tax department – hitting the ground running when he first arrived and saving several clients six figure sums in tax each. As these promotions demonstrate, career progression within Lang Bennetts is actively encouraged and Helen Hood, Jonathan Mashen and I are really pleased to welcome both Becky and Dan as fellow partners.”
