An exciting new soft play facility is going to be constructed at Better St Austell Leisure Centre.

Funded by GLL in partnership with Cornwall Council, the indoor play equipment will include a 4-lane Astra slide, spiral slide, integrated party rooms, a separate baby area, a ball pool and ball boggler, a glow room and interactive panels.

The facility, suitable for children aged 1-12 and their families, will be built in part of the centre’s sports hall from 18 February and is expected to open in the middle of March. The remaining hall area – the size of three courts – will still be available for club use.

“We’re delighted to be announcing this installation which will provide endless hours of affordable fun for local families,” said Jason Curtis, GLL’s Regional Business Manager. “As the UK’s biggest leisure social enterprise, our ethos is all about investing surpluses to benefit the local community and we believe a soft play area of this kind will encourage physical activity from an early age and be a welcome place for people to easily socialise with other parents, grandparents, friends and carers.

“We will do our very best to continue offering traditional sports within the reduced hall space as it’s important to us to provide as many club opportunities as possible. We understand that the changes will disappoint some of our members and promise to do as much as we can to alleviate this.”

GLL, which operates under the Better brand, took on the management of all Cornwall’s leisure centres on behalf of Cornwall Council in 2017.
