With a magnificent real tree in place, Camborne’s Christmas lights will officially be switched on at a special event compered by Man Engine’s Artistic Director Will Coleman on Saturday 24 November at 5pm.
Commercial Square is expected to be buzzing with seasonal excitement and anticipation as the afternoon’s stage entertainment starts at 2.30pm with stage performances by Proper Job, Holman’s Choir and Camborne Band. Will Coleman will be on hand throughout with his companion Po, teaching everyone some Cornish. Local children will parade at 4.40pm and some of them will help the Mayor, Santa and Managing Director of Apollo Bingo Mark Jepp push the button to switch on the lights.
“It’s a highlight of our Christmas programme and this year will be even more thrilling as we’ve got a wonderful real tree at the centre of it all,” said Chair of BID (Business Improvement District) Camborne, Sharron Lipscombe-Manley, who also runs Delight2Bite in Cross Street. “Local businesses are planning some wonderful Christmas window displays and children from nearby schools have painted some brilliant banners depicting the twelve days of Christmas. There will also be a children’s amusement ride, stilt walkers and a special bench for Santa in Cross Street.
“It’s a whole community effort and we’re particularly grateful to Apollo Bingo for sponsoring our 25-foot Nordman spruce tree, MacSalvors for craning the tree in at cost price and to Combine Tree Services (CTS) for helping to install it free of charge.
“We’re very proud of the large number of independent shops we’ve got in Camborne selling a wide range of quality goods and products. If you’re shopping for Christmas presents, Camborne is the perfect place to visit.”
With Camborne looking at its festive best, Santa has again leapt at the chance of welcoming children and their parents to his free grotto in Dylan’s Bear Necessities in Trelowarren Street from 11am to 3pm every Saturday in December leading up to the big day. His regular visits have been made possible by Tesco and everyone who voted in their blue token scheme.
Another festive bonus for visitors to Camborne this Christmas is the free parking in Rosewarne Car park every weekend from Saturday 24 November.
