Rob Vivian, CEO of Cornwall-based PureComms, has won the South West Institute of Directors’ (IoD) Corporate Responsibility (CSR) Award.
A keen advocate of healthy outdoor pursuits, Rob recently raised more than £3000 for Children’s Hospice South West by undertaking an arduous coast to coast trek in Costa Rica – contributing to a grand total of £13,200 raised by PureComms over the past 5 years for the charity.
In addition, the company gets actively involved in organisations like Young Enterprise, local colleges, business organisations such as Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and actively seeks to recruit local apprentices.
The IoD judges said Rob’s approach and leadership was evident.
“He has a holistic approach which empowers staff to develop their own fundraising initiatives and skills, while creating an office culture of which everyone can be proud,” they said.
Rob describes himself as a philanthropic entrepreneur – someone who takes genuine pride in his team and all that they collectively do outside of the day-to-day running of the business.
“My parents worked in education but also immersed themselves in the local community, so my own belief in the value of CSR was instilled at an early age,” said Rob. “I also have a very strong interest in environmental and ecological issues and spoke a DEFRA conference on the subject two years ago.
“I’m delighted and humbled by this award because it represents peer recognition of our ethos and our values. My team shares and enhances that approach and love the feeling, as I do, of giving something back. It’s about who we are as people and how we do business as a company.”
