It was a week of challenge, discovery and achievement for one Cornish schoolgirl during her compulsory week of work experience.
Emelia Long, 15, from the Roseland Academy, was invited to join the team of one of Cornwall’s newest and most innovative new travel websites, ‘We Are Cornwall’ and its sister company, SBPR Ltd.
Thrown in at the deep end, Emelia was sent out on a trip to Bodmin Jail to help with photography for a press release, assisted Sue Bradbury at a publisher meeting for her upcoming book ‘Secret Cornwall’ and was tasked with researching films and TV shows filmed in Cornwall including The Bad Education Movie, World War Z and Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Emelia proved herself extremely able and was therefore asked to write an article about ‘Using Instagram Successfully for Business’, which now features on the SBPR website and can be read online.
Emelia said: “We Are Cornwall was launched in March 2015 after a successful crowdfunding campaign. It’s managed by eight PR and marketing specialists working with a huge range of companies across Cornwall. The website helps residents and visitors discover and navigate around the magnificent places, products and features this county has to offer.
“I had such a great week. It was fun, exciting and I actually worked, which has really helped me to assess my potential and think about a future career. I was treated like a member of the team and would strongly recommend SBPR as a work experience placement for students next year, I truly enjoyed myself and everybody was so lovely.”
