Bustopher Jones recently celebrated the arrival of a new head chef, Darren Millgate, with an evening of cocktails, tempting menu tasters, live music and good company.
Darren began his career at The Nare Hotel, before spending a year in the
South of France. On his return to the UK he took the position of head chef in a busy Italian restaurant in Swansea before going back to his roots in Cornwall where he worked at The Scarlet followed by the Bedruthan Hotel, where he was Executive Chef.
“I couldn’t miss the chance of running a flagship restaurant in my home city,” said Darren. “I felt the time was right to take on a new role and I’ve really enjoyed creating the new menus.”
Tasters on the night included slow roast pork belly with soft boiled egg, watercress puree and a puy lentil, hazelnut dressing and duck consommé
with smoked wing, spring onion, pak choi and black garlic – all washed down with a delicious selection of cocktails and mocktails.
Also on show was a selection of artwork from some of Cornwall’s established artists. Embracing the wildness and remoteness of the county, the artists will be rotated throughout the year giving exhibition space for local talent. All the work is for sale.
“The launch was very well attended with lots of local people eager to see how we’ve developed the venue and the feedback has been fantastic,” said
Bustopher Jones Marketing Manager Freyja Hanstein. “Truro is a great place to dine out and we’re looking forward to welcoming both familiar faces and new ones over the weeks and months ahead.”
Bustopher Jones is open Monday to Saturday from midday until late; with an a la carte and two set menus for private dining to choose from. On top of the standard menus, there are lunch and pre-theatre dining options and the Christmas menu is also available both online and at the restaurant.
